Press Release
10, 9, 8, Countdown to Operation Graduation 2009
Operation Graduation 2009 is committed to keeping our kids from drinking and driving.
The countdown is on for The Woodland Operation Graduation 2009. Operation Graduation (www.operationgraduationonline.com) is the one event whose sole purpose is to keep our kids and our community safe during one of the most vulnerable times for drinking and driving− Graduation evening. The theme this year is Operation Graduation −Twilight ’09 and is set for both The Woodlands College Park High School (June 3rd) and The Woodlands High School (June 4th). This fun-filled memory making last “hoorah” takes place the night of graduation in an all night lock-in filled with entertainment, activities and prizes that “can’t be beat.” This much anticipated extravaganza takes place at McCullough Junior High campus on South Panther Creek starting at 11:30 pm and ending at 5:00 am.
Five (5) Benefits of OG 2009:
- Keeping our kids and community safe for Graduation 2009.
- Entertaining and fun event for both the participants and volunteers!
- The last “hoorah” for 2009 graduates for both Woodlands High Schools.
- One of the most memorable events for The Woodlands youth.
- An opportunity for community involvement in saving lives.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
The truth is The Woodlands has experienced numerous drug/alcohol and driving related deaths of our youth over the years. Operation Graduation volunteers, concerned parents, teachers and community members are committed to keeping our youth safe on one of the most special nights of a teen’s life. “We celebrate graduation night with the kids by providing them with a safe and fun alternative. If all of will pool our resources in the area of time, talent and funding can make a difference in saving a life. The question is only, are we willing to step up to the plate to make a difference?” declares 2009 board volunteer Regina Dick.

Fundraising activities throughout the year provide a major portion of The Woodlands
Operation Graduation’s funding. All of the money raised goes directly into that year’s event, so each year requires more funding and more volunteers. With over 1400 students graduating from both High Schools in 2009, The Woodlands Operation Graduation still needs volunteers to work the two different events. Parents support and participation are critical in keeping
Operation Graduation a success. Please contact Marilyn Shannon at
mrlynshannon@aol.comfor more information. To make a donation, sign up as a volunteer, or purchase this year’s popular “OPERATION GRADUATION- Twilight 09” T-shirt (available for $15) visit our website at www.operationgraduationonline.com.
Operation Graduation is an all night lock-in celebration for graduating seniors. It is held on the night of each school's graduation at McCullough Junior High School.
Operation Graduation is a substance-free lock-in, which means that once students arrive they are required to stay all night. This is to help ensure the safety of our graduating seniors. It is a proven fact that prom night and graduation night are the most deadly for teens. It has saved lives in our community and many others that participate.
In the past Operation Graduation has done some very exciting things. With 20 years of accident-free extravaganzas, The Operation Graduation Committee is proud to announce that we are coming upon our 22nd celebration. In previous years, parents and community members have been an essential part of operation graduation! We hope that this year you will volunteer your time and service to help make 2009 the best year yet. In addition, donations are a vital part of making this year’s event successful. Since we start at the beginning of year each with a zero balance, we need your support through donations and participation in the fund raising events. All of the money donated goes back to the students in some way. Whether it be gift cards, prizes, cash, or in entertainment we need your support to make this year’s Operation Graduation successful!
